Germans honour slain 'role model' Tugce Albayrak


Around 150 people attended a vigil in Berlin in her memory on Sunday.

President Joachim Gauck has described the student as a "role model".

A man, 18, is in custody over the 15 November attack, which left Ms Albayrak in a coma. Her life support was switched off on Friday.

She had intervened when she heard cries for help from the toilet of a fast food restaurant in the town of Offenbach, near Frankfurt, where the two girls were being harassed, German media report.

Kerosene explosion claims life of 15-year-old boy in Benin

A kerosene explosion that ignited a fire outbreak in Benin has claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy.
It was a tale of tears and sorrow as a 15-year-old boy was killed in a kerosene explosion that occurred on Thursday in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The incident which took place in the Textile Mill area of the city, also affected a woman, Loveth Odeh and her 5-year-old son whose name was given as Wisdom, as they suffered several degrees of burns from the fire that followed the explosion and are being treated at the Benin Central Hospital.

Nigeria unrest: Kano mosque attack 'kills dozens'



Dozens have been killed in a gun and bomb attack during Friday prayers at one of the biggest mosques in the Nigerian city of Kano, reports say.


Many more people have been hurt, with one rescue official putting casualty figures at just under 200.

The Central Mosque is where the influential Muslim leader, the Emir of Kano, usually leads prayers.

The emir recently called for people to arm themselves against Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

The group has been waging an insurgency in Nigeria since 2009 and has killed more than 2,000 people this year, rights groups say.

Jamie Cooper-Hohn wins £337m in High Court divorce case



The American wife of a London financier has been awarded £337m by a High Court judge in a divorce case.


Sir Chris Hohn and Jamie Cooper-Hohn, founders of the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, had fought over assets said to be worth more than £700m.

The sum is thought to be the biggest of its kind made by a judge in England after the couple separated following 17 years of marriage.

Details emerged after a draft ruling was given to the pair's legal teams.

Chisako Kakehi has lost six different husbands and boyfriends to mysterious deaths since 1994 and has garnered wealth running into millions of dollars from insurance and inheritance.

A 67-year-old woman, Chisako Kakehi, was on Wednesday, November 19 arrested in China on suspicion of killing her husband, her seventh partner to have died mysteriously.

Chisako Kakehi was arrested on the suspicion that she poisoned her late husband with cyanide. Isao Kakehi, who was Chisako’s fourth husband, suddenly fell sick at home before he was confirmed dead at a hospital in December 2013, less than two months after the couple married. An autopsy found highly toxic cyanide compounds in his blood.

Okocha questions Eagles’ passion

Former Nigeria captain, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has questioned the level of passion among current players of the Super Eagles following their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The reigning champions failed to qualify for the 2015 finals after drawing 2-2 with South Africa in Uyo on Wednesday, marking a second exit before the tournament proper in three editions.

Maiduguri – At least 45 people were killed in a suspected Boko Haram attack in northeast Nigeria, officials and witnesses said on Thursday, in the latest violence to hit the restive region.

The attack happened in the village of Azaya Kura in the Mafa area of Borno state on Wednesday, the caretaker chairman of Mafa local government area, Shettima Lawan said, calling it “wicked and despicable”.


Village chief Mallam Bulama said: “We counted 45 bodies at the end of the attack.”

But other residents said more may have died after they fled into the bush.

Mafa, which is about 50 kilometres (30 miles) east by road from the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, and the surrounding area has been repeatedly attacked by the Islamist insurgents.

CBN grants N2bn for SMEs in Delta State

ASABA—Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, rolled out a N2 billion Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, Development Fund in Delta State as part of its effort to alleviate poverty in the state.
Speaking at the ceremony in Asaba, the CBN governor, Mr Godwin Emefieli, said that the Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, credit funds were recognised worldwide as a catalyst for poverty alleviation, job creation and all-inclusive economic growth.

Emefieli noted that the fund was introduced by the apex bank to help address challenges facing SMEs in the country, adding: “The fund is meant to help those entrepreneurs with brilliant business ideas but lacking the necessary funds to succeed.”

Nigeria army 'retakes Chibok' from Boko Haram



The Nigerian army says it has recaptured the north-eastern town of Chibok, which was seized by Boko Haram militants on Thursday.

 Boko Haram fighters kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls from the village in April, sparking global outrage.

The group, which says it is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria, has repeatedly targeted villages in Borno state in recent months.

Jet crash in Bahamas kills 9; prominent pastor Myles Munroe among the dead


A jet crashed Sunday near Freeport, on the island of Grand Bahama, killing all nine people on board, authorities said.

The aircraft hit a crane at the Freeport Ship Yard and crashed into a nearby "junk site," police said.

No U.S. agencies are involved, and the Royal Bahamas Police Force is handling the investigation, a police spokesman said.

Police have not released the victims' identities, but Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie said pastor Myles Munroe and his wife Ruth were among the victims.

(CNN) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday called Israel's closure of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City after shootings a "declaration of war" as tensions rose in the city.

Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh told CNN on Thursday that the decision to close off al-Aqsa Mosque was a "brazen challenge" and "grave behavior" that would lead to "further tensions and instability."

28-Year-Old Man Sentenced For Stealing Pot Of Soup In Lagos


NAN – A Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday sentenced a 28- year-old man, Abiodun Ojedokun,  to six days of community service for stealing a large pot of soup.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, sentenced the convict to 48 hours of community service  for each of the three-count charge, after he had pleaded guilty to them.

Syria conflict: Nusra Front rebels attack Idlib

Idlib and Aleppo have been under heavy bombardment by government forces

Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants and other Syrian rebel groups have attacked the government-held city of Idlib, briefly seizing several official buildings.

The Nusra Front said its fighters killed dozens of government soldiers before being pushed back.

The Syrian government has maintained control of Idlib city in the country's north-west since it was briefly taken over by rebel groups in 2012.

South Africa goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa killed

 JOHANNESBURG (AP) -- The captain of South Africa's national soccer team was fatally shot when armed men broke into the house where he was staying, police said.

Goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was killed around 8 p.m. Sunday after two gunmen entered a house in Vosloorus township near Johannesburg while an accomplice waited outside, the national police force said on its Twitter account. The three assailants then fled on foot, according to the police service, which offered a reward of nearly $14,000 for information leading to arrests in the case.

Police said there were seven people in the house during the attack, and that the shooting followed an "altercation."

US judge sentences ex-Farc rebel to 27 years for abductions

A US judge has sentenced an ex-Colombian rebel to 27 years in prison for his role in the kidnapping of three American contract workers in 2003.
Alexander Beltran Herrera's unit was responsible for moving the hostages and imprisoning them in chains.

The contract workers were on an anti-drug surveillance mission when their aircraft broke down in the Colombian jungle in February 2003.

They were eventually rescued by the Colombian military in 2008.

Ebola outbreak: US nurse criticises quarantine treatment

Strict quarantine rules were imposed after a US doctor tested positive for Ebola on his return to New York

A nurse quarantined on her return to the US from treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone has criticised the way she was dealt with at Newark airport.

Kaci Hickox said the experience was frightening and could deter other health workers from travelling to West Africa to help tackle the Ebola virus.

Illinois has become the third state after New York and New Jersey to impose stricter quarantine rules.

Meanwhile the US ambassador to the United Nations is to visit West Africa.

Samantha Power will travel to Guinea on Sunday, continuing later to Liberia and Sierra Leone - the three worst-hit countries.

Commuters in Dubai are being offered thea chance to win lavish prizes if they take public transport, it's reported.

The emirate's transport authority is giving away 4kg (8.8lb) of gold as part of celebrations for Public Transport Day on 1 November, to try and lure people out of their cars and into mass transit. The prizes will be handed out through "raffle draws and other surprises" over the course of a week, it says. The event is aimed at encouraging people to "shun reliance on private vehicles and switch to using public transport," says Dr Yousuf Al Ali of the Roads and Transport Authority. Car ownership rates in Dubai are among the highest in the world, with an average of 2.3 cars per family, while only 13% of people use public transport.

Reyhaneh Jabbari, 26, was hanged in a Tehran prison despite an international campaign urging a reprieve.

Jabbari was arrested in 2007 for the murder of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, a former employee of Iran's ministry of intelligence.

Human rights group Amnesty International said she was convicted after a deeply flawed investigation.

The move comes a day after a doctor, Craig Spencer, returned from Guinea and tested positive for Ebola in New York. Anyone arriving from affected West African countries without having had confirmed contact with Ebola victims will be subject to monitoring by public health officials. The plans go beyond anything so far announced at a national level by the Obama administration. People in New York City have expressed concern that Dr Spencer used public transport and restaurants before being diagnosed. More than 4,800 people have died of Ebola - mainly in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone - since March. On Friday, it was announced that one million doses of an experimental Ebola vaccine will be produced by the end of 2015. But it was a day of mixed news in the US, where the first infection in New York was followed by the release from hospital of Ms Pham, 26. "I feel fortunate and blessed to be standing here today," she said. "I am on my way back to recovery." Ms Pham thanked supporters for their prayers during her illness, and asked for privacy as she plans her return to Texas and a reunion with her dog, Bentley.

An Argentine ex-police chief and ex-interior minister have both been given life sentences for running a detention and torture centre in the 1970s.

They were among 19 people charged with the kidnap, murder and torture of 128 prisoners in the city of La Plata.

The detention centre also functioned as a maternity unit for pregnant prisoners who gave birth before being executed.

Tens of thousands of Argentines were kidnapped or killed by the military junta between 1976 and 1983.

One killed in Washington state school shooting

One person was shot dead and four students wounded in a school cafeteria by a student who then took his own life, police in the US state of Washington have said.

The shooting occurred at Marysville Pilchuck High School near Seattle.

The four students, including two cousins of the gunman, were shot in the head, with three severely wounded.

Officials said the gunman, identified by local media as Jaylen Fryberg, died at the scene.

There was pandemonium at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Thursday afternoon following fire outbreak in the top floor.

New police unit to curb communal clashes

Abuja - The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba has set up an entity to address communal clashes.

Four Assistant Inspectors General of Police chair the committee tagged the “Nigeria Police Committee on Prevention and Management of Communal Clashes."

The committee has twelve other members drawn from the six geo-political zones of the country.

According to a statement by Emmanuel Ojukwu, Force Public Relations Officer, Suleiman made the announcement during a working visit to Kaduna State.
Ojukwu added that IGP had resolved to bring to an end, the pervasive communal clashes that had plagued different parts of the country.

He said the terms of reference include encouraging and facilitating dialogue among warring parties, conducting mediation meetings with aggrieved parties with a bid to peacefully resolving declared differences, developing and applying early warning mechanisms and systems of threats of communal clashes as well as mediating and applying Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services to avert conciliate and reported communal disputes before they escalate.

A popular American professor has exposed the real reason behind Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa.

Francis Boyle recently answers questions for TVXS.GR and revealed that the United States of American has been using West Africa as an offshore to circumvent the Convention on Biological Weapons and do bio-warfare work.

Man jailed for raping two underage girls and trying to rape a third

A former miner who raped two underage girls and tried to rape a third has been jailed for eight years.

William Mailer was previously found guilty of carrying out the abuse during the 1970s and 1980s in Edinburgh and Dalkeith.
On Tuesday, the 71-year-old was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh for the attacks, which he carried out when he was in his 30s and early 40s.
Lord Glennie said it was clear from victim impact statements provided to him Mailer's actions had been seriously damaging.
He said: "They still show the scars even today."
Lord Glennie also placed Mailer on the sex offender register indefinitely.

Jonathan launches National Schools Agric scheme

 President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday, launched  the National Schools Agriculture Programme (NSAP) aimed at developing a new generation of youth agriculture enthusiasts from secondary schools.The pilot phase of the programme, a School Agribusiness Club (SAC), is to be established in selected schools from 12 states across the six geo-political zones. Each club will comprise 120 students. ‎ The pilot states are Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Ogun, Oyo, Kano, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Bauchi and the Federal Capital Terrority (FCT).
The programme will also focus on food/vegetable production, horticulture, aquaculture, poultry, apiary, livestock production, small scale irrigation, nutrition, processing and packaging, and entrepreneurial skills for members of agribusiness clubs. ‎
‎‎The NSAP is geared toward building technical and entrepreneurship skills in the students to run agriculture as a business, equip school leavers with practical life skills to create jobs for themselves to enable the youths develop a positive attitude towards agriculture.

Total’s CEO Christophe de Margerie dies in Moscow plane crash

(MOSCOW, Russia)
Christophe de Margerie, the chief executive of French oil company Total, has died in an air crash in Moscow.
His corporate jet collided with a snow plough and then was engulfed in flames. All four people on board were killed.
The driver of the snow plough was drunk, according to Russian investigators.
Mr de Margerie, 63, had been chief executive of Europe’s third largest oil company since 2007. He was highly regarded within the oil industry.
A statement from the office of French President Francois Hollande said: “Christophe de Margerie dedicated his life to French industry and to building up the Total group. He made it into one of the very top global companies
“Francois Hollande cherished Christophe de Margerie’s independent character, original personality and his devotion to his country.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his condolences.
News agency Tass quoted a Kremlin spokesman as saying: “The President highly appreciated de Mergerie’s business skills, his continued commitment to the development of not only bilateral Russian-French relations, but also on multi-faceted levels.”
Mr de Margerie joined Total Group after graduating from the Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Paris in 1974.
